Mentorship is crucial

Your team is the core of your business being able to serve your clients and operate a profitable business.  Do you have a plan for how to continue to attract, retain, and incentivize a strong team?  A strong team doesn't just happen.  It requires thought and planning regarding what talent is needed, how to support that talent, and how to continue to grow the capabilities of your team.

Ask yourself several questions.

Who on your team (what roles?) could you most not afford to lose?

What capabilities on your team are most crucial to the success of your business?

Do you have back-up plans for every crucial position, just in case disaster happens?

What capabilities that you currently don't have on your team would provide the greatest opportunity for more stability and growth?

Thinking through these questions will help you to define your team needs.  Create a brief summary that includes a general description of your team, by role, and each role's required capabilities, who is backup for that role, level of compensation, and other requirements.

In thinking through and planning your team needs and structure, you will also be able to identify roles on your team that need more development and training.  Create a summary with each role for those development and training needs, too.  Determine where mentorship would help each role.  And put in place the mentor relationships that will help build redundancy and strength in every position on your team.  It is important to formalize mentorship roles, including scheduling meetings, goals, and accountability for each one.

Mentorship is crucial to the continued development of your team.
