Gratitude is a requirement for a healthy practice. Gratitude is required for both employers and employees. Without gratitude, success will not be sustainable, and the working environment will be stagnant and unpleasant.
Practice owners who have a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to serve their clients and patients and for the efforts of their team to do so, will have a much healthier practice. Gratitude signifies humility and a sense of unselfishness that will provide an environment to nourish team growth, constant improvement, and a desire for future opportunities. Conversely, without gratitude, employees will feel unappreciated, clients will sense a money-hungry approach and the practice is likely to be filled with dissatisfied employees and clients. That practice will not be healthy, and will likely be very stagnant.
Employees should also exhibit gratitude. Those that exhibit entitlement, envy, and self-centeredness will not be positive team members, and clients will not want to deal with those attributes any more than their employer wants to work with them. "Thank you for the opportunity" should be a frequent statement heard in any business that has a grateful culture.
When hiring members of your team, look for people who have a sense of genuine gratitude. They will serve you and your clients well. Leadership should be the first to exhibit gratitude to make it a part of your culture.
